Five Titans Receive CSC Academic All-District Honors

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Five members of the Illinois Wesleyan University football team were recognized as College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honorees Tuesday, Dec. 19. Additionally, juniors Josh Hlavacek (Plainfield, Ill.-Plainfield North) and Sam Schott (West Lafayette, Ind.-West Lafayette) were named a finalist for Academic All-America, which will be announced in late January.

Joining Hlavacek and Schott on the list were fellow juniors Peyton Feldman (Chillicothe, Ill.-Illinois Valley Central) and Jimmy Capecci (Springfield, Ill.-Sacred Heart-Griffin), along with senior Arthur Chatt (Western Springs, Ill.-Lyons Township). Schott and Hlavacek earned the accolade for the second straight year.

In order to be eligible for CSC Academic All-District, student-athletes must hold a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.50 and have participated in 90 percent or started in 66 percent of a teams' contests. Hlavacek and Schott were chosen to advance to the Academic All-America ballot by a subcommittee of CSC members.

Hlavacek, a Second Team All-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin pick a season ago, finished the year with 30 tackles. He ranked third on the team with eight TFLs, while his four sacks were also good for third-best on the team. Hlavacek, a biology major with a 3.76 GPA, led the team with six QB hurries. 

Schott, who holds a 3.96 GPA in mathematics, notched a career-high 68 tackles as an everyday starter for the Titans. The West Lafayette, Ind. native led the team with 48 solo tackles and was credited with 20 assisted stops. He totaled seven tackles for loss, two sacks, two pass breakups, and recovered a fumble. 

A first-year starter on the offensive line, Feldman is a biochemistry major with a 4.00 GPA. Starting all 10 games, he was part of an offensive line unit that helped IWU rush for 927 yards and 11 rushing touchdowns. 

A biology major, Capecci owns a 3.67 grade point average. Starting all 10 games for the Green and White, Capecci racked up 31 tackles and a career-high six pass breakups. He also added an interception. 

Chatt was the team's top tackler in 2023, finishing with 72 stops. He accrued 43 solo tackles and assisted on 29 more, while adding 3.5 tackles for loss, an interception, and one forced fumble. A finance major, Chatt maintains a 3.54 grade point average.

The Academic All-America team which is voted on by CSC members across the country will be announced in late January.
