BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's track and field teams returned to action as hosts of the annual I-55 Triangular meet, inside the Shirk Center, Saturday, Jan. 21. The Green and White welcomed WashU, the University of Chicago, North Park University, and Elmhurst University to Bloomington.

Out of the five programs, the men's team finished in third place with 39 points. The women's squad brought home fifth, with a point total of 9.5. The WashU men's and women's teams both claimed the team title. The Bear's men won with 80.5 points, while the women notched 97.5 points.

For the men, freshman Evan Lowder (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) cracked the IWU all-time top-10 list with his second-place finish in the 200 meter race. Lowder's time of 22.94 is now the ninth-fastest time in Illinois Wesleyan school history. Additionally, sophomore Matthew Wagner (Normal, Ill.-Central Catholic) tossed a personal-best mark of 13.13 meters in the shot put to garner a third-place finish out of the field of 13 athletes. Wagner's previous personal-best mark was 12.54 meters that was secured earlier this season.

Senior Christian Gatsos (Brookfield, Ill.-Lyons Township) enjoyed a tie for second with a 4.10 meter mark in the pole vault event. In the high jump event, senior Drew Tatlock (North Pekin, Ill.-Pekin Community) earned a mark of 1.90 meters, good for second. Sophomore Sam Okewole (Tinley Park, Ill.-Tinley Park) registered a triple jump distance of 12.74 meters, which was good for a third-place finish.

The 4x400 meter relay squad featuring Murray, Lowder, sophomore Alex Harvey (Galesburg, Ill.-Galesburg), and freshman Seth Hamerski (Mount Vernon, Ill.-Webber) teamed up to assemble an impressive time of 3:28.04 for a second-place finish, just .08 seconds behind WashU's 'A' team.

On the women's side, sophomore Evelyn Wilson (Geneseo, Ill.-Geneseo) tied for second-place in the high jump event as she successfully cleared the 1.50 meter bar.

The Green and White will hit the road for the only time during their indoor portion of the schedule for the program's next competition. The teams will head to Dubuque, Iowa for the Spartan Invitational, Sat. Jan. 28. The first event is slated to begin at 10 a.m.
