KENOSHA, Wis. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's tennis team opened its 2022-23 season at the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Fall Invite Saturday, Sept. 10. Due to predicted rain in the forecast, the second day of the tournament has been canceled. There were no team scores kept, only individual brackets.

Freshmen Ben Vigneri (Casper, Wyo.-Phillips Exeter Academy) and Griffin Hammond (Metamora, Ill. -Metamora Township) each had solid debuts for the Green and White. Vigneri competed in the singles flight four, where he was battling for third place. He defeated Elliot Saint-Paul of Augustana (6-4, 6-0) before falling to North Central's Breyden Kopp 6-4, 6-4. 

Hammond competed in the singles flight seven, also winning the first match before dropping his second, putting him in the match for third place as well. Hammond took down Carroll's Owen Buggert, 6-3, 6-2. In his second match he fell short 6-1, 6-2 against Augustana's Gustavo Fontenelle. 

Hammond and junior Joshua Cortez (Chicago, Ill.-Notre Dame College Prep) paired up to play in the doubles flight four. The duo picked up two wins, defeating Carroll and Milikin by scores of 8-5 and 8-4. 

The Titans return to action at the Wabash Hidden Gem Invitational Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 17-18. Results will be posted following the completion of the match.
