Track and Field Wraps Up First Outdoor Events

Five Titans competed at ISU, six traveled to WashU

NORMAL, Ill. / ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's track and field teams began their 2022 outdoor season Friday, April 1. The team sent five throwers to the highly competitive Illinois State University meet located in Normal, Ill. for the hammer throw. The six distance runners competed at the Distance Carnival hosted by Washington University in St. Louis. 

At the Division I Illinois State Redbird Invite,  junior Kayleigh Hall (Monticello, Ill.-Monticello) paced the Green and White women with her hammer throw distance of 32.70 meters. Junior Claire Retherford (Foosland, Ill.-Gibson City/Melvin-Sibley) launched a distance of 28.52 meters.

For the men at ISU, freshman Luan Ademovski (Elk Grove Village, Ill.-Elk Grove) earned the top mark for the Titans with a throw of 37.28 meters. Freshman Matthew Wagner (Normal, Ill.-Central Catholic) and sophomore Joshua Klein (Glen Carbon, Ill.-Edwardsville) notched distances of 33.52 meters and 19.72 meters, respectively.

The three women distance runners saw success at the WashU Distance Carnival. Senior Lexie Dorsey (Mahomet, Ill.-Mahomet-Seymour) crossed the finish line with a time of 37:42.33 in the 10k race, which earned her 20th place overall, including the ninth-fastest time in IWU history. In the field of 135 for the 5k race, freshman Annalese Chudy (Libertyville, Ill.-Libertyville) secured 37th with a time of 18:19.59, while senior Jenna Mirande (Peoria, Ill.-Limestone) earned a time of 18:53.61, good for 60th.

On the men's side, junior J.D. Barrett (Tuscola, Ill.-Tuscola) competed in the 10k race. The Tuscola, Ill. native completed the race with a time of 32:32.19, which is still sixth-best in IWU history. In the 5k, junior Josh Tong (Naperville, Ill.-Naperville North) assembled a 16:53.09 clip, while senior Zach Orpilla (North Aurora, Ill.-Marmion Academy) notched a time of 17:13.36.

The teams will see a quick turnaround as the Green and White are scheduled to compete tomorrow, April 2 at either Illinois State or Millikin University. Both events are set to start at 10 a.m.
