BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's and men's track and field programs began the 2022-23 season by hosting the highly anticipated Titan First Chance meet, Saturday, Dec. 10, inside of the Shirk Center. In total, the Green and White secured three event wins. The field consisted of a plethora of talent from the Division II, III, and NAIA levels. The women's team topped the field of 12 teams with 71 points, while Maryville University finished second with 70.25 points. The men's team secured third (67 points), with Greenville University taking home first (87.33 points).
The women's team saw success with a trio of event wins. In her indoor collegiate debut, freshman
Adriana Crabtree (Normal, Ill.-University High) earned her first-ever victory in the mile race as the Normal, Ill. native posted a time of 5:37.78. In the triple jump event, junior
Lauren Wong (Morton, Ill.-Morton) leaped to victory with a distance of 11.20 meters to best the field. The Morton, Ill. native also snagged third in the long jump event as she posted a mark of 5.00 meters.Â
Finally, the 4x400 relay team featuring freshman
Bella Gonzalez (Itasca, Ill.-Lake Park), junior
Jules Grunloh (Towanda, Ill.-Lexington), sophomore
Davion Lemon (Marrero, La.-Patrick F. Taylor Science and Technology Academy), and freshman
Jordynn Griffin (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) outpaced the field by over five seconds to claim the victory as the quad recorded a time of 4:19.76.
Griffin sprinted her way to a third-place finish in the 300 meter race. Griffin welcomed a time of 43.22 in her collegiate debut. Junior
Lexi Ward (Downs, Ill.-Tri-Valley) also secured third (1:43.38) in the 600 meter race. In the 3000 meter race, freshman
Abby Quinn (Chicago, Ill.-Marist) brought home third with a mark of 12:20.17. Sophomore
Evelyn Wilson (Geneseo, Ill.-Geneseo) picked up where she left off a season ago. The sophomore recorded a tie for second in the high jump event as Wilson welcomed a mark of 1.55 meters.
For the men, in the field of 42, freshman
Evan Lowder (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) notched his first-ever collegiate victory in the 300 meter race. Lowder secured the victory by just over half a second as fellow Titan, junior
Kade Murray (Watseka, Ill.-Watseka Community) recorded a second-place finish. Lowder ran with a clip of 35.83, while Murray posted a time of 36.34.
Freshman
Bobby Mogged (Piper City, Ill.-Tri-Point) snagged second in the 60 meter hurdles with an impressive time of 8.61. In the triple jump, freshman
Jahari Scott (Lake Bluff, Ill.-Lake Forest) also brought home a second-place finish. Scott heaved his way to a distance of 6.74 meters. Additionally, senior
Drew Tatlock (North Pekin, Ill.-Pekin Community) earned a tie for second in the high jump event as Tatlock cleared the 1.90 meter height.
In the 200 meter sprint, senior
Keondre Schumacher (Bloomington, Ill.-University High) saw a second-place finish, with a time of 22.93. Senior
Christian Gatsos (Brookfield, Ill.-Lyons Township) also notched a second-place finish in the pole vault as Gatsos soared over the 4.20 meter bar.Â
Both teams will take an extended holiday break before returning to action. The Green and White will host the I-55 Tri meet Saturday, Jan. 21, inside of the Shirk Center, with a start time of 11:15 a.m. The meet will feature Washington University in St. Louis as well as the University of Chicago.Â
