BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's volleyball team will make the short 106-mile trip north to take on non-conference opponent Aurora University Friday, Sept. 17. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m. inside Thornton Gymnasium.
The Titans enter the match with a record of 6-5 (1-0 CCIW) overall. The Spartans are looking to get back to the .500 mark with their record sitting at 3-4.
After starting the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin season with a bang with a four-set victory against Elmhurst University, Sept. 15, IWU is looking to use that momentum to overpower the Spartans. In the CCIW opener, junior Grace Sanders (Bloomington, Ill - Bloomington) notched a double-double with team leading 20 digs and 12 kills. Seniors
Amber Juarez (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal U High) and
Jessica McCall (Wayne, Ill. - Wheaton St. Francis), and sophomore
Maddie Dryfhout (Orland Park, Ill.-Chicago Christian) also added double-digit kills. Juarez tallied 17 digs to go along with a team-high three aces, while McCall and Dryfhout chipped in 10 apiece.
For the season, senior Courtney McAuliffe (Lemont, Ill. - Lemont) leads the Titans with 103 kills and 38 blocks. Sanders has added 82 kills, 117 digs, and 11 aces. McCall is third on the team kill list with 73. She has also produced 67 digs and nine aces for the year. Dryfhout and freshman
Morgan Harrington (Plainfield, Ill. - Plainfield East) both have registered 56 kills.
Juarez has accumulated 153 digs in her 39 sets played. Senior Madi Corey (Frankfort, Ill.-Lincoln-Way East) and Dryfhout have notched 74 and 68 digs, respectively.
Corey is leading the Titans with 216 assists. Freshman Ava Porada (Frankfort, Ill. - Lincoln-Way East) is putting together an impressive rookie campaign with her 182 assists and team-leading 17 aces.
IWU's balanced offensive attack has led to a 507-470 kill advantage over the opposition this season. IWU's kills are the most in the CCIW and fourth-most in all of Division III. As a team, the Green and White have a .186 hitting percentage to go along with 12.7 kills per set. The Titans lead the conference and rank third nationally in assists (432).
