Five Titans Garner PING All-Region Accolades

Titans five selections are most of any team nationally

The Illinois Wesleyan University men's golf team headlined the NCAA Division III PING All-Region teams announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America announced the six regional teams Thursday, June 24. IWU led the country with five selections as senior Andrew Abel (Geneva, Ill.-Geneva), Justin Park (Vernon Hills, Ill.-Vernon Hills), and Rob Wuethrich (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community), junior Jimmy Morton (Sugar Grove, Ill.-Marmion Academy), and sophomore Ethan Wilkins (Sussex, Wis.-Lake Country Lutheran) were honored as part of the All-Central Region squad.

It is the fourth straight season in which Wuethrich has reeled in the accolade, and the third all-region selection for Abel. Morton garnered the award for the second straight season, while Park and Wilkins nabbed the honor for the first time in their careers.

Abel played in 12 tournaments for the Titans, where he posted seven top-10 finishes. He notched All-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin honors with a fourth-place finish and wrapped up his career tying for 12th at the NCAA Division III National Championship, May 11-14. 

Park posted a 74.14 stroke average over 20 rounds. He collected seven top-10 finishes, highlighted by a fifth-place score of 226 (71-77-78) at the CCIW Championship to earn all-conference recognition.

Wuethrich, who was named a finalist for the Jack Nicklaus Division III Player of the Year, finished the 2020-21 campaign ranked No. 2 in GolfStat. He notched 11 top-five finishes in 12 tournaments. He won the Illinoi Wesleyan Invitational, the CCIW Preview, and Millikin's Take Back the Night Challenge. Following an All-CCIW finish at the league championship, Wuethrich collected All-American honors as he tied for fourth at the NCAA Division III National Championship with a four-round score of 288 (72-71-72-73).

In 27 rounds, Morton compiled a 73.1 stroke average and recorded eight top-10 finishes. He picked up wins at the NCAA DIvision III Preview and Olivet Nazarrene's Fall Intercollegiate. Morton garnered All-CCIW honors after finishing runner-up at the conference championship. His season closed out with a sixth-place finish at the NCAA Championship, earning him All-American accolades.

Wilkins burst onto the scene with a 74.1 stroke average over 18 rounds. The Sussex, Wis. native tallied five top-10 finishes and finished the season ranked No. 18 according to GolfStat. At the CCIW Championship, Wilkins tied for eighth to earn all-conference honors. His 72-hole total of 292 at the NCAA Championship was good for 10th-place and All-American status.
