Blair Bests Own Discus Record at Twilight Qualifier

Men's 4x100 runs fourth-best time in IWU history

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - Senior Ayana Blair (Wheeling, Ill.-Wheeling) broke her own discus record as the Illinois Wesleyan University track and field teams shored up their seeding at Augustana College's Twilight Qualifier, May 20, ahead of next week's NCAA Championships.

Blair improved upon her own school discus record, registering a mark of 45.66m, as she won the event. The Wheeling, Ill. native reset the record at the same venue she set it back on April 16, when IWU competed at Augie's Meet of Champions. Nationally, Blair ranks seventh in all of Division III.

On the men's side, the highlight of the evening came in the 4x100 relay where the Titans ran their way into the record books. The team of Keondre Schumacher (Bloomington, Ill.-University High), Cyrus Clarke (Bronx, N.Y.-Bronx Theatre), Dylan Ruskin (Deerfield, Ill.-Deerfield), and Samuel Painter (Litchfield, Ill.-Litchfield) recorded a season-best time of 41.79. The time ranks fourth-best in IWU history and is the fastest since the record was set in 2008.

Rebekah Harden (Tinley Park, Ill.-Lincoln-Way North) added a win in the 1500m run with a time of 4:37.00, while senior Kelsey Wyman (Monmouth, Ill.-Monmouth-Roseville) won the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:03.55. Sophomore Addison Bendery (Chicago, Ill.-Loyola Academy) placed second in the 100m dash (12.00).

Illinois Wesleyan closes out the 2021 campaign at the NCAA Championships next week, May 27-29 at Irwin Belk Track Complex in Greensboro, N.C.
