Bendery Posts Top Time in DIII as Titans Shine at EIU Big Blue Invite

CHARLESTON, Ill. - Sophomore Addison Bendery (Chicago, Ill.-Loyola Academy) posted the best 200m time in Division III and senior Katie North (Aurora, Ill.-Metea Valley) won the 5000m run as the Illinois Wesleyan University track and field teams shined in a field full of Division I competition at the EIU Big Blue Invite Friday, April 9.

The women finished fifth in the team standings with 66 points, edging out Loyola Chicago (53), SIU-Edwardsville (46), Western Illinois (17), Valparaiso (12), and Millikin (10). On the men's side, the Titans placed eighth with 25 points to finish ahead of Valparaiso (10), Western Illinois (6), and Bryant & Stratton (3).

Bendery notched a third-place finish in the 200m dash, where she crossed the finish line in 24.72. Her time is the best in Division III this season, and ranks sixth on IWU's all-time list. She also turned in a third-place finish in the 100m dash with a mark of 12.09.

North claimed the 5000m title with a time of 17:39.65, using a strong finish to best Eastern Illinois' Avani Flanagan (17:39.93).

In the 800m run, Rebekah Harden (Tinley Park, Ill.-Lincoln-Way North) placed fourth with a time of 2:17.78. Wyman and senior Cora Wilkinson (Verona, Ill.-Seneca) went four-five in the 400m hurdles with times of 1:04.84 and 1:04.88, respectively.

The women's team also secured a runner-up finish in the 4x100, where Kelsey Wyman (Monmouth, Ill.-Monmouth-Roseville), Avery Smith (Naperville, Ill.-Naperville North), Emma Helferich (Monticello, Ill.-Monticello), and Bendery crossed the finish line in 48.98. The Titans finished just on the heels of Miami (Ohio), and edged out Eastern Illinois by less than two tenths of a second.

Senior Ayana Blair (Wheeling, Ill.-Wheeling) put together an impressive showing in throws. She finished fourth in the shot put (12.67m) and fifth in the hammer (46.21m). Also picking up top-five finishes were Kinlee Miller (Tuscola, Ill.-Tuscola) and Camryn Winterland (Lexington, Ill.-Lexington), who finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the triple jump.

On the men's side, senior Zach Anderson (Algonquin, Ill.-Westminster Christian) notched sixth-place finishes in the hammer and shotput. He recorded a mark of 50.94 in the hammer and 15.60m in the shot put. Senior Jake Mahaffey (Plainfield, Ill.-Providence Catholic) took third in triple jump, clearing 1.87m, while Drew Tatlock (North Pekin, Ill.-Pekin Community) placed fifth with a mark of 1.80m. Mahaffey added a fifth-place finish in high jump with a height of 13.27m.

Next up on the outdoor schedule for the Titans is the Augustana Invite next Saturday, April 17.
