Men’s Tennis Edges Transy 5-4

Titans now 6-2 on season

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's tennis team came out on top beating Transylvania University 5-4 Saturday, March 13. The Titans took four wins in singles and one win in doubles keeping its perfect at-home record of 4-0 and advanced to 6-2 on the season.

The Titans took wins at No. 1, 2, 4, and 6 singles as three out of those four wins were pushed into tiebreaker sets. At No. 1 singles, junior Demetrios Triantafel (Indian Head Park, Ill.-LaGrange Lyons) collected the first set off a 7-6 tiebreaker win, which turned into a 3-6 downfall in the second set, before claiming a 6-1 victory in the third set over the Pioneers. Similar to Traintafel, freshman Evan Turnbull (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington) at No. 4 singles won the first set 6-4, fell short in the second with a 7-5 loss, but battled back taking the final set 7-6 in a tiebreaker win. 

At No. 2 singles Carter Burk (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal U High) also battled through three sets. After losing 6-1 in the first set, Burk overcame his competition taking the next two sets 7-6, with a tiebreaker decision in the final set. 

Doubles partners Dylan Mikaili (Napperville, Ill.-Waubonsie Valley) and Justin Piotrowski (Palatin, Ill.-Fremd) represented the Green and White at No. 3 doubles taking the match 8-5. Mikaili and Piotrowski are 3-3 as double partners this season. 

The Titans get ready for the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play, March 26 when they take on North Central College in Naperville, Ill next Saturday.
