Women Take 10th, Men Place 21st at NCAA Midwest Regional

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's cross country teams competed in the NCAA Midwest Regional race Saturday, Nov. 13. The race was held in Rock Island, Ill. at Saukie Golf Course. The women's team finished in 10th place with 306 points out of the 24 schools that competed while the men hauled in 21st place with 576 points out of the field of 30 teams. The women ran a 6K while the men took on the 8K course. 

Wartburg won the women's regional with 34 points as three runners finished inside the top-five. WashU's 43 points gave the Bears second place, and Chicago checked in with 70 points for third place. 

On the men's side, Wartburg won with 38 points, while finishing with the top two individual times. WashU (86 points) and North Central (90 points) rounded out the top three. 

Senior Rebekah Harden (Tinley Park, Ill.-Lincoln-Way North) finished the women's race with the top time for the Green and White to secure 27th place and a spot on the All-Region Team with her 22:44.3 clip. Senior Lexie Dorsey (Mahomet, Ill.-Mahomet-Seymour) clocked in at 23:16.8 to take 48th place. 

For the men, junior J.D. Barrett (Tuscola, Ill.-Tuscola) turned in the top time for the Titans clocking at 26:18.6. Junior Noah Smith (El Paso, Ill.-El Paso-Gridley) finished with a time of 27:19.1. Barrett placed 72nd and Smith finished in 108th.

Both teams will wait to hear from the committee to see if either team will be awarded one of the additional 22 team at-large bids from the 10 different regions to compete in the NCAA Division III Championship that will be held in Louisville, Ky. Saturday, Nov. 20. Updates will be made available on iwusports.com once made available.
