Cross Country Stays Home for Redbird Invite

Men’s race begins at 9 a.m. with women’s to follow

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - After a weekend off, the Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's cross country teams are back in action Friday, Sept. 12 at the Redbird Invite. The event, hosted by Illinois State University, will take place at Weibring Golf Club. The men's 8k race will start at 9 a.m., with the women's 6k competition scheduled to follow at 9:45 a.m. 

The Titans began the season with the Titan Opener Friday, August 29, which saw the Green and White dominate the field. Seniors Seth Hamerski (Mount Vernon, Ill.-Webber) and Adriana Crabtree (Normal, Ill.-University High) swept the men's and women's event, as Hamerski picked up his first career win. Crabtree earned her second career title and also earned College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Runner of the Week honors, Sept. 3, following her performance.

On the women's side, freshman Alexia Spatz (Spring Grove, Ill.-Richmond Burton), seniors Abby Quinn (Chicago, Ill.-Marist) and Brooke Nazos (Batavia, Ill.-Batavia), and sophomore Taylor Fleury (Algonquin, Ill.-Dundee-Crown) all earned top-five finishes in the Titan Opener. Senior Zach Marquardt (Minneapolis, Minn.-Washburn) picked up a second-place finish on the men's side, while sophomores Jack Thomas (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) and Carson Davis (Mt. Zion, Ill.-Mt. Zion) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

The Titans will be one of seven teams competing in the event, alongside Chicago State, Illinois State, Northern Iowa, Southeast Missouri State, Wartburg, and Western Illinois. 

The men's race will start at 9 a.m., and the women's race to follow. Live results will be available and can be found here.
