Bill Pfeiffer Inducted into National Softball Hall of Fame

Pfeiffer, a 1969 IWU graduate, was a three-sport athlete in college

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - Bill Pfeiffer, a 1969 graduate of Illinois Wesleyan University that went on to be an outstanding men's fast pitch softball player, will be inducted into the National Softball Hall of Fame as a member of the 2020 class Saturday, Oct. 23, in Oklahoma City, Okla. The special evening will recognize the nine inductees for their accomplishments, history-making moments, and milestones that helped shape the sport of softball.

Pfeiffer will be inducted alongside Olympians Natasha Watley and Lovieanne Jung, former Slow Pitch greats Doug Roberson, Carl Rose, Cecil Whitehead and Curtis Williams, fellow Men's Fast Pitch All-American Terry Muck and long-time USA Softball leader Phil Gutierrez. Pfeiffer competed in football, wrestling, and baseball during his time at Illinois Wesleyan in the late 1960s. He was inducted into the Order of Titans upon his graduation in 1969.

As a long-time member of the Home Savings team based in Aurora, Ill., Pfeiffer helped lead his squad to 13 American Softball Association National Championship appearances. Additionally, he was a member of the USA Softball Men's National team that won a silver medal at the inaugural Pan American Games in San Juan, Puerto Rico and earned multiple All-American honors. 

After retiring from softball, Pfeiffer became co-founder of the Aurora Fastpitch Softball Association, which he currently still serves in. 

USA Softball will officially enshrine the group of legends at the newly opened Oklahoma City Convention Center located east of beautiful Scissortail Park. Set to be held Saturday, Oct. 23, the 40th Annual National Softball Hall of Fame Ceremony will begin with a happy hour reception followed by dinner and the program at 6 p.m. CT.
