Season Bests Aplenty at Friday Night Lights Dual Versus Millikin

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's track and field teams claimed 11 event wins at the Friday Night Lights dual against Millikin University, Friday, Feb. 21, inside the Shirk Center fieldhouse. The women's team took the victory over the Big Blue by a score of 71-68 while the men were defeated 73-64.

Freshmen Addison Bendery (Chicago, Ill.-Loyola Academy HS) posted a first-place finish in the women's 60-meter dash with a time of 8.07, while fellow freshman Amy Pineda (Goodfield, Ill.-Eureka HS) placed second with a season-best time of 8.19. The duo also recorded top-two finishes in the 200-meter dash, with season-best times of 26.38 from Bendery and 27.28 from Pineda.

Freshman Anna Bender (Lowell, Ind.-Lowell HS) placed second in the 60-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 10.40. Senior Rachel Budd (Cedarburg, Wis.-Cedarburg HS) finished second in the mile run (5:31.23), and freshman Jorri Sandage (LeRoy, Ill.-LeRoy HS) took third in the 200-meter dash (17.30, season-best).

On the men's side, senior Jeremy Glickman (Wilmette, Ill.-New Trier THS) took the top spot in the mile run, clocking in at 4:25.44 to set a new season best. Fellow senior Davis Nguy (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community HS) clocked in at second place in the 60-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 9.57.

For field events, the women's long jump featured three new season-bests by Cora Wilkinson (Verona, Ill.-Seneca Township HS), Emma Helferich (Monticello, Ill.-Monticello HS), and Pineda, as they finished 1-2-3 with jumps of 18' 5.75", 17' 2.75", and 16' 7.25".

Another 1-2-3 finish was recorded by the Titans in the women's triple jump, with freshmen Kinlee Miller (Tuscola, Ill.-Tuscola HS), and Camryn Winterland (Lexington, Ill.-Lexington HS), along with sophomore Katie Vogler (Quincy, Ill.-Quincy HS), turning in distances of 34' 2.25", 33' 9.25", and 33' 5.25". Vogler also placed second in the high jump with a mark of 4' 3.25".

Senior Angela Roman (Mt. Prospect, Ill.-Prospect HS) swept the weight throw and shot put events, with a season-best throw of 51' 7" in the weight throw and a distance of 39' 6.5" in the shot put. Fellow senior Tamara Snevely (Joliet, Ill.-Joliet Central HS) placed first in the women's pole vault, tying a season-best height of 9' 6.25".

For the men, Nguy's height of 11' 5.75" was good for first place in the pole vault. Senior Colin Orchard (Lindenhurst, Ill.-Lakes Community HS) won both the shot put (52' 6") and weight throw (52' 9"), improving his season-best distance in the shot put by more than four feet. Sophomore Cole Paraday (Frankfort, Ill.-Lincoln-Way East HS) followed behind with a third-place finish in the weight throw with a distance of 45' 5".

Sophomore Brady McMasters (Catlin, Ill.-Salt Fork HS) jumped season-best distances of 19' 8" to finish second in the long jump and 39' 3" in a third-place finish in the triple jump. In the high jump, sophomore Jake Mahaffey (Plainfield, Ill.-Providence Catholic HS) took third with a height of 6" 0.75".

Illinois Wesleyan will host the two-day College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Track and Field Championships, beginning at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 28.
