BLOOMINGTON, Ill.- The Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's swimming and diving team returns to action after a week-long training trip in Florida over the holiday break. The Titans are scheduled to host the men's swimming and diving team of Wabash College Friday, Jan. 10 with a 5:30 p.m. first swim. Both the men and women will compete in Terre Haute, Ind. to battle Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Saturday, Jan. 11. First swim is slated for 12 p.m.
This marks the 10th consecutive year the men's swimming and diving team will compete with Wabash. Just last season, the Titans racked up 15 top-three finishes against the Little Giants.
Mason McCauley (Deerfield, Ill.-Deerfield HS) notched three second-place finishes with times of 1:48.32 in the 200 yard freestyle, 55.19 in the 100 yard butterfly, and 2:08.38 in the 200 yard individual medley.
Jackson Rapala (Roselle, Ill.-Lake Park HS) recorded two second-place finishes in the 100 yard backstroke (1:03.84) and 500 yard freestyle (5:16.79), while also clocking in right behind McCauley in the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 2:18.00 to finish third.
Oscar Schmidt (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington HS) turned in two third-place finishes in the 100 and 200 yard breaststroke with times of 1:08.13 and 2:32.01.
Last season against Rose-Hulman, the women's team broke a 24-year pool record in the 400 yard freestyle relay.
Ellen Gilbert (Northbrook, Ill.-Glenbrook North HS),
Megan Wong (Gurnee, Ill.-Warren Township HS),
Lucy Saucedo (Libertyville, Ill.-Libertyville HS), and
Lisa Cheng (Vernon Hills, Ill.-Vernon Hills HS) recorded a first-place time of 3:39.66 to topple the previous mark of 3:40.22 set by Wheaton College in 1996.Â
McCauley remained on top with two additional first-place finishes in the 1000 yard freestyle and 200 yard butterfly with times of 9:59.57 and 1:59.35 in the men's dual against RHIT.
Kyle Fox (Orland Park, Ill.-Carl Sandburg HS) turned a time of 22.33 in the 50 yard freestyle to claim first.Â
