BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's swimming and diving teams split meet with Olivet Nazarene University and North Central College on Friday, Nov. 6 at Fort Natatorium. The Titans beat NCC 160-33 on the women's side and the men's squad grabbed a 139-9 victory. IWU fell to ONU by scores of 120-94 and 139-61, respectively.

Illinois Wesleyan recognized 2017 NCAA Division III National Champion Meg Stanley during the meet. Stanley, who won the 500-yard freestyle title nearly 10 years ago, was honored with a new plaque inside Fort Natatorium, beginning a new tradition as part of the newly minted wall of honors.

"Tonight was a special night as we were able to honor Meg Stanley and her incredible career here at IWU by becoming the only national champion in program history," director of swimming & diving Dan Lloyd said. "It was a joy to meet her family and our team loved being able to pay tribute to the incredible legacy and impact she had on our program."

"I am extremely proud of our team and the way they raced tonight," Lloyd added. "They came together and showed a lot of mental toughness and heart in their races. We are excited for a weekend of back-to-back competitions that will prepare us well for the conference meet in February, which is our main focus."

On the women's side, freshmen Piper Lowder (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) and Macy Cappa (Savoy, Ill.-Champaign Central) earned first-place finishes, with Lowder adding two more wins to her resume in the 50 and 100 free. The reigning CCIW Swimmer of the Week, touched the wall in 25.05 seconds in the 50, before turning around with a time of 54.36 to take the 100 free race. Cappa snagged a win with an even two minutes in the women's 200 free, a new personal-best time.

The freshman quartet of Lowder, Maeve Harkness (Grand Rapids, Mich.-Grand Rapids Christian), Cappa, and Brynley Wilber (Champaign, Ill.-Champaign Centennial) won the 200-yard free relay. Lowder led off with a 25.59 split with Wilber posting an anchor split of 25.12 to secure the top spot for the Titans. IWU's 'B' team took third in the relay. The quartet of sophomore Ellen Hoover (Naperville, Ill.-Naperville Central), freshman Veda Harkness (Grand Rapids, Mich.-Grand Rapids Christian), senior Claire Paule (Godfrey, Ill.-Alton), along with junior Isabella Cano (River Grove, Ill.-East Leyden) clocked a time of 1:48.41.

The men's squad saw a first place finish from freshman Max Chiappetta (West Dundee, Ill.-Harry D. Jacobs), who took the top spot in the 1000 freestyle, touching the wall in a career-best 10:18.98. Junior Tate Thomas (Joliet, Ill.-Joliet West) took third in the event with a time of 10:35.94. Junior Ben Huk (Des Plaines, Ill.-Maine West) grabbed a second-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:04.21.

The Green and White go on the road tomorrow, Nov. 7 for the Monmouth Invite at Pepper Natatorium. In addition to IWU and the host, Monmouth, Illinois College, North Central, Ripon, and Millikin will also compete at the meet. Action is slated to start at 1 p.m. Results will be posted on iwusports.com after the conclusion of the event.
