TERRE HAUTE, Ind.- The women's swimming and diving team of Illinois Wesleyan University bested Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Saturday, Jan. 11 with a score of 180-82, while the men's swimming and diving team dropped 164-64, respectively.Â
Sophomores
Ellen Gilbert (Northbrook, Ill.-Glenbrook North HS) and
Megan Wong (Gurnee, Ill.-Warren Township HS) led the way for the Titans with three first-place finishes apiece. Gilbert turned a time of 1:01.91 in the 100 yard backstroke, 5:20.09 in the 500 yard freestyle, and 2:17.12 in the 200 yard individual medley. Wong clocked in at 2:01.92 in the 200 yard freestyle, 2:18.74 in the 200 yard backstroke, and 1:05.44 in the 100 yard butterfly to claim first.Â
Freshman
Josephine Schmidt (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington HS) posted first-place finishes in the 100 yard breaststroke and 100 yard freestyle with times of 1:16.54 and 1:02.14, respectively. Freshman
Donna Kurek (Roselle, Ill.-Lake Park HS) completed the 1000 yard freestyle five seconds before following teammate with a time of 11:25.53 to finish in first. Freshman
Lauren Feddersen (Champaign, Ill.-Centennial HS) notched a time of 2:34.88 in the 200 yard breaststroke to finish on top.Â
Senior
Amber Gauthier (Battle Creek, Mich.-Pennfield HS) increased her season best by 17 points in the 1-meter dive with a score of 190.95, while also adding a score of 204.96 in the 3 meter diving.Â
On the men's side, freshman
Dillion Cherwin (Huntley, Ill.-Huntley HS) recorded two first-place finishes in the 200 yard freestyle with a season-best time of 1:46.80 and 2:03.33 in the 200 yard backstroke. Sophomore
Mason McCauley (Deerfield, Ill.-Deerfield HS) touched in six seconds ahead of the field in the 500 yard freestyle turning a time of 4:55.82.
IWU swimming and diving resumes action Friday, Jan. 24 as host to Millikin University and North Central College. First swim is slated to begin at 6 p.m.
