WINTER GARDEN, Fla. - Former Illinois Wesleyan University men's golf standout
Shane Smith earned regular season status on the Korn Ferry Tour for the upcoming season with his performance at the qualifying tournament finals, Dec. 12-15. A three-time College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Golfer of the Week awardee, Smith graduated from IWU in 2012 with a degree in marketing.
He earned a spot in the Korn Ferry Tour Qualifying Finals after finishing tied for 20th at the second stage event in Plantation, Fla., Nov. 5-8. There, the Godfrey, Ill. native fired a four-round 276 to finish eight under par and just seven strokes off the lead. Smith carded a final round 67 to catapult 14 spots up the leaderboard and advance to the finals.
At the tournament championship, Smith recorded rounds of 68, 68, 70, and 68 en route to a tie for 32nd-place. Smith, who finished 14-under at 274 at Orange County National in Winter Garden, Fla., earned eight guaranteed starts for the 2020 Korn Ferry Tour with his top-40 finish.
The PGA TOUR announced the 2020 Korn Ferry Tour schedule, Oct. 15, which features 28 tournaments played in 20 states and four countries outside the United States, with the season culminating with the Korn Ferry Tour Finals in August. The 28 total events are the most since 2010 and will include $18,850,000 in official prize money, the largest figure on the Korn Ferry Tour in over a decade. The full KFT schedule can be found here.
