KALAMAZOO, Mich.- The Illinois Wesleyan University men's tennis team began play at the ITA Central Regional Friday, Oct. 4, in Kalamazoo, Mich.Â
In singles action, sophomore
Demetrios Triantafel (Indian Head Park, Ill.-LaGrange Lyons HS) clinched a victory over Cobe Benzel of Calvin. Following a 6-2 win in the first set, Triantafel dropped the second in tiebreaking fashion 6-7(5), before finishing with a 10-7 victory in third. From there, he fell in matches against third-seeded Ian Yi of Kalamazoo and Wyatt Dale of Principia.
Elsewhere in singles play, junior
Dylan Mikaili (Naperville, Ill.-Waubonsie Valley HS) was dropped by Oberlin's Stephen Gruppuso.
Triantafel and freshman
Carter Burk (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal U High) dropped a 8-6 decision against Millikin's Logan Bennett and Jacob Palley in the round of 64 doubles competition. The duo will play in the first round of doubles tomorrow facing Wooster College's Austin Hanna and Alon Liberman with an 8 a.m. ET first serve.Â
