BLOOMINGTON, Ill.- The Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's swimming and diving opened its season against Division II Lewis University at IWU's Fort Natatorium Saturday, Oct. 12. The women battled to a 169.5-110.5 defeat, while the men fell 213-43.

Sophomore Megan Wong (Gurnee, Ill.-Warren Township HS) led the way with a pair of first-place finishes. Wong turned a time of 29.67 in the 50 yard backstroke and 2:14.90 in the 200 yard individual medley to take the top spot in each. Additionally, sophomore Ellen Gilbert (Northbrook, Ill.-Glenbrook North HS) touched in with a time of 59.45 in the 100 yard butterfly event to claim first. 

Junior Lucy Saucedo (Libertyville, Ill.-Libertyville HS) added a trio of second-place finishes. She was the runner-up in the 50, 100, and 200 freestyle with times of 25.66, 56.13, and 2:02.77, respectively.

On the men's side, sophomore Mason McCauley (Deerfield, Ill.-Deerfield HS) and senior Will Garcia (Mundelein, Ill.-Mundelein HS) tallied a second-place finishes. McCauley marked a time of 10:28.08 in the 1000 yard freestyle while Garcia competed in the 50 yard freestyle with a final time of 23.88. 

IWU continues competition as host of the IWU Invitational at Fort Natatorium Saturday, Oct. 26. Action is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
