NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Illinois Wesleyan track and field athlete
Amelia Glueck was named the 2018 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Woman of the Year on Monday, July 16, and will now represent the conference as a nominee for the 2018 NCAA Woman of the Year award.
Glueck was chosen through a voting process conducted by the CCIW Senior Woman Administrators and Faculty Athletics Representatives. It is the third year in a row for an Illinois Wesleyan women to earn the honor and the 10th time in the 13 years for a Titan to win the distinction.
A native of Pekin, Illinois and Tremont High School, Glueck was a Division III All-American in every NCAA Championship she entered including individual outdoor long jump national titles in 2016 and 2018. She also helped lead the Titans to a national title during the 2016 outdoor season and is a nine-time all-American.
At the conference level, Glueck was an eight-time conference champion including two indoor long jump titles (2015, 2018), four outdoor long jump titles (2015, 2016, 2017, 2018) and two outdoor 4x100-meter relay titles (2015, 2016). The Titans also won four conference team titles during her career including two indoor (2015, 2016) and two outdoor (2015, 2016) championships.Â
A Health Promotion & Wellness Management major with a 4.00 grade-point average (GPA), Glueck was the winner of the NCAA Division III Elite 90 award during the 2018 Division III Indoor Track & Field Championship, which is given to the student-athlete with the highest GPA among the athletes that qualified for the national track & field championship. She was also a member of the Dean's List all four years and earned College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America honors in 2017 and 2018.Â
Glueck was actively involved with campus and community activities. She organized community service projects as a member of Illinois Wesleyan's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, interned with the university's campus dining to provide healthier meal options, interned in the athletic training room, helped organize weekly worship sessions with campus ministry, and was a team captain for her final three years with the Titans' track & field program. In the community, Glueck was a lunch buddy at Sheridan Elementary School, and served as a Sunday School teacher at Eastview Christian Church.Â
She was chosen among a group of six other nominees including Augustana's Valeria Melo (track & field), Carthage's Elanta Slowek (track & field), Elmhurst's Mikaela Eppard (basketball), North Central's Jenna Trojniar (softball), North Park's Amanda Papke (track & field) and Wheaton's Sarah Van Wingerden (soccer).Â
The Woman of the Year award honors senior female student-athletes who have distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in the areas of academic achievement, athletics excellence, service and leadership.Â
Glueck's nomination moves onto the NCAA Woman of the Year selection committee, which is made up of representatives from the NCAA membership. The committee chooses the top 30 honorees including 10 from each division. From the top 30, the committee determines the top three honorees from each division and announces the nine finalists in September. The NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics then chooses from among those nine to determine the 2018 NCAA Woman of the Year.
Â
The top 30 honorees will be celebrated and the 2018 NCAA Woman of the Year winner will be announced at the annual award ceremony October 28 in Indianapolis.
