Illinois Wesleyan Women's Lacrosse Continues NCAA Run Saturday in Vermont

he BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The Illinois Wesleyan women's lacrosse team will square off against No. 4-ranked Middlebury College at 11:30 a.m. ET on Saturday, May 19 in the third round of the NCAA Division III championships on Kohn Field in Middlebury, Vt.

Coached by Lindsey Kellar, the Titans are 16-3 and have won 12 straight games after capturing their first-ever NCAA win, 18-8 over Hamline at Tucci Stadium on Sunday, May 13.

Middlebury (17-2) advanced with an 18-5 win over Babson on Sunday and the Panthers are no strangers to national tournament success, winning the Division III championship in 2016 and five other times (1997, 1999, 2001, 2002, 2004). Head coach Kate Livesay won the 2016 national title with her alma mater and also coached national champion Trinity (Conn.) in 2012.

Middlebury's losses this season came at the hands of No. 1-ranked The College of New Jersey (10-6) and No. 19-ranked Colby (14-12). The Panthers own one of the better defenses in the country, ranking No. 12 in scoring defense with 6.84 goals allowed per game. On free-position attempts opposing teams are shooting just 37-for-103. Goalkeeper Julia Keith averages 6.70 goals against per alongside a .480 save percentage. Emma McDonagh is the team's leading scorer with 40 goals and 19 assists.

No. 8-ranked York (Pa.) will battle No. 14-ranked Catholic in the other regional game on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. ET in Middlebury. The game is a rematch from the 2018 regular season when Catholic prevailed, 14-13.

The winners will meet at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday, May 20, with a trip to the final four on the line. Winners of the four regionals will advance to the semifinals and final, which take place Saturday and Sunday, May 26-27 at Kerr Stadium in Salem, Va.
