BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The Illinois Wesleyan volleyball team will face Cal Lutheran University on Friday (Nov. 9) at 3 p.m. in the first round of the 2018 NCAA Division III championships in a regional hosted at the Ratner Center on the campus of the University of Chicago.
With a 20-game winning streak and an overall record of 25-5, Illinois Wesleyan is making its second straight and sixth all-time
NCAA tournament appearance with others coming in 2017, 2015, 1998, 1997, and 1991. IWU has a 2-5 record in national tourney play.
The regional opens at 12:30 p.m. Friday with No. 2 seed Washington University (25-7) playing No. 7 Cornell College (18-9). Two other games will follow the IWU/Cal Lutheran game with No. 4 Trinity (Texas) (25-6) meeting No. 5 Aurora (23-8) at 5:30 p.m. and the top-seeded host school (28-4) playing No. 8 seed University of Dubuque (24-8).
The quarterfinal winners will meet at 2:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10, and the regional title game is scheduled for 1 p.m on Sunday, Nov. 11.
Tickets are $7.50 for adults, $5 for students and senior citizens and $3 for children under 12. Admission is free for children ages 2 and under.
Cal Lutheran has an 18-11 record and is in the NCAA tournament with an at-large bid after losing to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 3-0, Saturday night in the title game of the the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Tournament. The Regals are making their 18th appearance in the NCAA Tournament and have a record of 33-16 in the tournament. Cal Lutheran won the 2015 NCAA championship were runners up in 2013 and 1995.

The Regals, who were 11-5 in their conference, had three all-SCIAC selections as senior outside hitter Amanda Roberts and freshman middle blocker Maci Haddad earned first team and senior defensive specialist Steph Rolfson was named to the second team. Roberts totaled 300-plus kills and digs on the year and was sixth in the SCIAC with 3.12 kills per set and 14th with 3.02 for digs per set while Haddad led the SCIAC in hitting percentage (.365) and blocks per set (1.08). Rolfson was third in the SCIAC with 7.83 assists per set and dished out 7.83.
