BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The IWU men's and women's swimming and diving teams were back in action on Saturday, Jan. 28 for a dual meet against Franklin College. Illinois Wesleyan went 1-1 for the day with the women coming victorious 152-142, while the men fell to the Grizzlies 181-101. IWU produced 15 first-place finishes on the afternoon, with nine coming from the women and six from the men.
IWU swept the 1000 yard freestyle events on Saturday. Junior
Tori Tiberi won the 1000 yard freestyle for the women with a time of 10:58.24, a career-best for Tiberi and her first time below the 11:00 mark in competition. In his first time swimming the event this season, freshman
Will Garcia won the 1000 yard free with a time of 10:12.42.
Senior
Meg Stanley earned three first place finishes, winning the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:57.80 and the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 55.71. Stanley, sophomore
Lisa Cheng, sophomore
Claire Michael, and senior
Baylee Hoecker won the 200 yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:41.48. Hoecker was also victorious in the women's 100 yard backstroke, finishing with a season-low time of 1:00.99.
The Titans swept the 500 yard freestyle events with senior
Andrew Younger finishing with a time of 5:09.55 and
Claire Michael winning with a time of 5:25.02.
Freshman
Annie Meyers won the women's 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:19.25, a career-low.
With a career-best time of 22.22, junior
Rob Houle won the men's 50 yard freestyle. Junior
Morgan Bishop was also victorious for the men, winning the 200 yard IM with a time of 2:05.08.
IWU swept all diving events on Saturday, with both junior
Nicole Lee and senior
Alex Guess winning each of their respective events. Lee won the one meter dive with a score of 197.70 and the three meter with a final score of 177.65. Guess won the one meter dive by a narrow margin, edging out Franklin's Jacob Keener by a final score of 256.55-256.50. In the three meter dive Guess won with a final score of 233.95.
What's Next?
Next up for the Titans is the CCIW Swimming and Diving Championships. The diving portion will be held at IWU's Fort Natatorium on Feb. 3-4 while the swimming championships will take place in Pleasant Prairie, Wis on Feb. 9-11.
