BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- Junior attacker
Maggie Krause and sophomore defender
Mariah Smith were chosen as the Most Valuable Offensive and Defensive Players, respectively, for the 2016 Illinois Wesleyan women's lacrosse team.
In the second year as a varsity sport at Illinois Wesleyan, the Titans improved to a 15-4 record this spring and played for the championship in the College Conference oif Illinois and Wisconsin postseason tournament. IWU was 7--9 in its first year.
Krause (Evanston, Ill. / Evanston Township HS) tied for second on the team with 28 goals, had 18 assists and was second on the squad with 46 total points. She connected on 28 of 50 shots for a .560 shot percentage and was also fourth on the team with 36 ground balls.
Smith (Frankfort, Ill. / Lincoln-Way East HS) led the Titans with 46 draw controls, was third on the team with 40 ground balls and caused 19 turnovers.
Illinois Wesleyan's lone senior was
Lauren Pavich (Hinsdale, Ill. / Hinsdale Central HS), who led the team with 64 points and 38 assists.
Head coach
Lindsey Rosecrans, who has a two-year record of 22-13 at the school, awarded letters to 16 players. The letterwinners are:
