Titans 6-0 in Football After 31-10 Win at Carthage

KENOSHA, Wis. - The No. 22-ranked  Illinois Wesleyan football team improved to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin for the third straight year with a 31-10 win over Carthage on Saturday, October 19, in Kenosha, Wis.

The Red Men lost for the fifth straight time and fell to 1-5 overall and 0-3 in conference play.

Carthage got on the board first with a 22 yard field goal by Brett Bulkari with 9:07 to play in the first quarter, the only scoring in the first 15 minutes.

The Titans scored with 7:11 to play in the second quarter on a 6-yard TD pass from senior Rob Gallik to senior Tate Musselman. The drive was set up by a 65-yard pass play between Gallik and Musselman.
IWU capped a 13-play, 52-yard drive with a 31-yard field goal by sophomore Michael Kelley with 26 seconds left to take a 10-0 lead into the locker room at halftime.

A seven-play, 62-yard drive ended with nothing as Kelley missed a 23-yard field goal with 5:34 to play in the third quarter but the Titans opened up a 17-3 lead when Gallik found Artie Checchin on an 11-yard TD pass with 1:02 left in the third. Kelley added the kick to cap the seven-play, 56-yard drive that consumed 3:13.

After a Carthage fumble, IWU had an eight-play, 41-yard drive end with a 1-yard run by senior Devonte Jones. Kelley's PAT gave IWU a 24-3 lead with 11:54 to play.
The final score came with 2:18 to play as Gallik connected with Musselman on a 3-yard scoring play and Kelley's kick made the score 31-3.

Carthage tacked on a touchdown with 23 seconds left in the game on a 7-yard pass to Marcus Hines Jr. from backup Nick Anzelmo.

Illinois Wesleyan, who led in first downs 14-13, amassed 387 yards of total offense (241 passing, 146 rushing) and limited Carthage to 198 total yards (159 passing, 39 rushing).
Senior linebacker Chris Simms led IWU with 11 total tackles while junior linebacker Connor Klein made eight and senior cornerback Paul Panno made five.

Gallik completed 19 of 29 passes for 241 yards and three TDs. Checchin made nine grabs for 107 yards with one TD and Musselman had three catches for 74 yards with the two TDs. Musselman now has 20 career touchdown catches and is tied for seventh in IWU history with Eric Larsen (1994-97) and Joey Driver (2008-11).

Jones rushed 17 times for a team-high 81 yards, helped by a long run of 45 yards.

What's Next?
The Titans look to go to 7-0 for the first time since 1996 when they host No. 13-ranked Wheaton on Saturday, Oct. 26, at 1 p.m. at Tucci Stadium. The Thunder is also 6-0 and 3-0 in the CCIW after a 28-3 win over Elmhurst.
