With Illinois Wesleyan's Homecoming this weekend, the 1992 team will be honored along with former Titan football captain Karl Pierburg, who is the recipient of one of the school's alumni awards.

The 1992 team finished the regular season with a 9-0 record and won the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin championship and became the first IWU football team to advance to the NCAA Division III playoffs. IWU won a home game against Aurora before losing on the road at Mount Union in the NCAA games.

The team captains were quarterback Tom Monken, linebacker Rob Zvonar, defensive back D.J. Rossini and record-breaking wide receiver Chris Bisaillon, who was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame this summer.

Monken and Zvonar were chosen as offensive and defensive most valuable players, respectively.

Team members have a wide variety of activities planned, including social time at Rosie's Pub in downtown Bloomington at 7:30 p.m. Friday and a motivational session with the current team at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

IWU (5-0, 2-0 CCIW) faces Carthage in the Homecoming game at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

Pierburg, an offensive lineman who graduated from Illinois Wesleyan in 1998, is the recipient of the Robert  M. Montgomery Young Alumnus Award. Pierburg is currently the director of football systems/special projects for the Atlanta Falcons.

On Saturday morning at 10:30 in the Beckman Auditorium of The Ames Library, Pierburg will present a talk on "Information Technology and the NFL". Prior to arriving in Atlanta, Pierburg spent three years as IT manager of football systems for the Chicago Bears, handling development work on coaching systems and college and pro scouting systems. H developed a system that allowed area scouts to manage rosters, write scouting reports and access other pertinent information.

Pierburg graduated from IWU with a double major in mathematics and computer science. He was a four-year letterman in football and was named to the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin all-conference teams as a junior and senior. He was one of the Titans' 1997 team captains.
