IWU Men and Women Win Swim Meet vs. Principia

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan men's and women's swim teams each won their dual meets against Principia on Jan. 9 at the Shirk Center. The men won, 131-74, while the women claimed a 170-50 decision.

Three Titans were double winners in the meet - for the women, sophomore Angela Lugg won both the 1000 freestyle (11:12.54 9) and the 200 butterfly (2:19.18), while for the men, sophomore Tommy Gilbert was the winner of the 200 freestyle (1:49.54) and 200 breaststroke (2:23.22) and freshman Brent Caras claimed both the 50 freestyle (22.82) and 100 freestyle (51.08).

Other female winners were junior Lauren Hansen in the 200 freestyle (2:07.87), sophomore Andrea Peterson in the 200 individual medley (2:20.26), sophomore Katy McCortney in the 1-meter diving (154.40), freshman Alex Sebens in the 200 backstroke (2:22.55), freshman Katie McHugh in the 500 freestyle (5:27.67) and freshman Chelsea Werries in the 200 breaststroke (2:38.25).

Male individual winners were senior Chris Betzle in the 1000 freestyle (10:11.83), sophomore Sam Mitchell in the 200 individual medley (2:08.43), senior Mike Kozak in the 200 butterfly (1:56.97) and freshman Shane Mrozek in the 500 freestyle (5:18.94).

The IWU women and men both won the 400 freestyle relay as well as the 400 medley relay against Principia.
