Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan volleyball team split two matches on Saturday, Oct. 31, beating Wartburg in five sets after losing to Anderson in five sets at the Barker Chevrolet Classic III at the Shirk Center.

DAY TWO RECAP

Anderson beat the Titans by scores of 20-25, 25-21, 24-26, 25-18, 15-10 and then IWU rallied to defeat Wartburg by scores of 25-14, 23-25, 22-25, 33-31, 15-13.

"I was very disappointed with how we finished in the match against Anderson. I felt we didn't take advantage of opportunities or played aggressive defense," said IWU head coach Kim Nelson-Brown. "In our second match against Wartburg, our defense won the game for us. We finally averaged 19 digs per game and came up with some big digs near the end of set four and again in set five."

Against Anderson, all-tournament selection Emily Hagen had 16 kills and six blocks, Lori Johnson had 13 kills and Amy VanDerVoorn had 10 kills and 10 digs. Senior Jackie Wrobel had 21 digs and sophomore Stacy Hassinger provided 47 set assists as the team made 54 kills.

In the Wartburg match, Hagen had 22 kills, Johnson had 14 kills and freshman Alex Hill provided 12. Wrobel had 32 digs, the third highest total in a five-set match at IWU, while VanDerVoorn had 16 digs, fresman Jessica Spence had 15 and junior Teresa Kirk had 11. Hassinger had 70 set assists.

DAY ONE RECAP

On Friday, Oct. 30, the Titans (18-14) defeated Chicago by scores of 20-25, 28-26, 26-24, 25-23. The scores against Mt. St. Joseph were 19-25, 25-15, 25-18, 25-16.

"In the first match today against Chicago, we started off very slow and didn't adjust very well," said IWU head coach Kim Nelson-Brown. "Winning the second set gave us a big confidence boost and we played that way the rest of the match. Against Mount Saint Joseph, we came out strong but didn't adjust to the changes they were making. I felt Mount Saint Joseph did a great job serving aggressively which took us out of our offensive system."

Against the Maroons, senior Emily Hagen had 14 kills with two blocks and senior Amy VanDerVoorn added 10 kills. Junior Teresa Kirk led the team with 14 defensive digs while senior Jackie Wrobel and VanDerVoorn each had 13 digs, Sophomore Stacy Hassinger had 47 set assists and nine digs.

In the match against the Lions, VanDerVoorn had 11 kills and three blocks while Hagen had nine kills and three blocks. Freshman Alex Hill contributed nine kills and had a team-high five blocks. Wrobel and freshman Jessica Spence each had 10 digs and Hassinger made 39 assists with seven digs.
