BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan football team, ranked No. 24 in the latest American Football Coaches Association poll, was stunned by Millikin, 19-13, at IWU Stadium on Oct. 6 to ruin the Titans' Homecoming game.
The Titans (4-1, 1-1 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) dominated the Big Blue (4-1, 1-1 CCIW) in yardage (415 yards to 158 yards), first downs (27-8) and time of possession (33:58 to 26:02) but the Titans committed two interceptions and were penalized nine times for 99 yards.
Millikin got on the board with 5:20 to play in the first quarter when Tommy Eichenauer caught an 8-yard pass from Andy Dicken and Chris Hunt added the extra point kick to make the score 7-0. The Big Blue went ahead 10-0 when Hunt hit a field goal from 31 yards away with 14:55 to go in the first half.
Millikin took a 17-0 lead into the locker room at the half when Cody Acree returned an interception 73 yards for a score and Hunt added the PAT with 5:51 before intermission.
The Titans finally got on the board with 4:41 to play in the game when junior quarterback
Brien Rooney found Joseph Driver on a 31 yard pass play and sophomore
Michael Fenger added the kick to make the score 17-7. That TD pass capped a seven play, 88 yard drive that took 1:26.
With 1:19 left in the game Rooney found Driver again on a 13 yard TD pass to make the score 17-13 but Fenger's kick was blocked and the ball was returned by Carleston Acres for a two-point defensive conversion to give Millikin a 19-13 lead.
Filling in for an injured
Kraig Ladd, Rooney completed 17-of-33 attempts for 202 yards and also was the Titans' leading rusher with 91 yards on 24 carries. Driver made 11 catches for 161 yards and the two scores.
Jack Scalcucci had five catches for 40 yards and
Dayton Burnett made four grabs for 73 yards, Ladd completed seven of 15 passes for 107 yards.

and junior linebacker Dan Rogers
each had six tackles while senior linebcaker Mike Kotz#, senior cornerback
Roman Hunter and
Ryan Gresko each accounted for five stops.
Neal Loftus made an interception for Illinois Wesleyan, who will travel to face Augustana at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17.
