Illinois Wesleyan senior Andrea Peterson was a two-time Division III All-American in 2011 as she finished fourth in the 100 backstroke (55.87 seconds) and fifth in the 200 backstroke (2:01.87) and at the NCAA swimming championships March 23-26.
Peterson was named the “Most Oustanding Participant” in the 2011 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin meet and earned all-conference as she won the 200 backstroke, the 100 backstroke and was on the winning 200 medley relay team.
She holds two individual swim records at IWU and is a member of five school-record relay teams.
A psychology major at Illinois Wesleyan, Andrea is the daughter of Mr. Mark Peterson and Mrs. Lynn Calhoun.


Why you chose Illinois Wesleyan: I loved the campus and small school atmosphere, and I wanted to be able to continue swimming in college

IWU class you’re most qualified to teach: Sports & Exercise Psychology

The hardest challenge about being a Division III student-athlete is: Lack of sleep. 

Worst grade in a class you ever got – what and when? C in Spanish, freshman year... when I didn’t understand the point of general education classes.

I’m deathly afraid of ... : Drowning... which is ironic because I’m a swimmer.

Worst habit: Picking out the split ends in my hair

Most expensive traffic ticket: Speeding. $95. Oops.

Language I’d like to learn: French

The longest I could survive without my cell phone: A day... maybe!

Your usual response to “What’s going on?”: "Nothin’, you?"

Favorite sports figure: Aaron Rodgers!!

My greatest moment in sports was: Placing fourth and fifth at Nationals last year - An accomplishment I truly had never even dreamed of.

The best player I ever faced was: The national champs in the 100 and 200 backstroke

Worst dresser on my team: Tommy Gilbert

Thing that’s been in my fridge the longest: Apple juice.  I always have some.  Each bottle may not last long, but there’s always some more in the fridge.

Person I’m dying to have dinner with: Phil Dunphy..... from [TV show] "Modern Family" :)

Favorite food: Macaroni and cheese

Vegetable I won’t eat: Corn on the cob

Pepsi or Coke?: Pepsi from a fountain. Coke from a can.

Favorite TV show: "Modern Family"

Favorite musical group: Brad Paisley

Favorite movie: Solid tie between "Mean Girls" and "The Guardian"

If a movie were made of my life, I would like the following person to play me: Katherine Heigl

The person in history I would most like to meet is: Brett Favre

My dream job would be: Dolphin trainer at Sea World.

Place I’d most like to live: In a small town, somewhere that it never snows.

Two things that are tops on my “bucket list”: Visit Ireland and have rooftop seats at a Cubs game (again)

My possession that would fetch the most on eBay: My car?

What I miss most about being in the third grade: Knowing how to write in cursive.
