Illinois Wesleyan senior women's lacrosse captain Grainne Kelly (Orland Park, Ill., Sandburg HS) is a three-time first team all-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin selection and is the school's all-time leader in goals and points and second in assists.
Grainne was the winner of the 2019 "Jason Jones True Titan Award", presented to the senior student-athlete who represents the highest character as a member of the Titan Athletic Community.
A psychology major at Illinois Wesleyan, she is the daughter of John and Aishling Kelly.


Why you chose to attend Illinois Wesleyan: I chose IWU for its small school feel along with its amazing academic reputation, and of course, for the incredible team that I get to be a part of!

IWU class you’re most qualified to teach: How to Take Notes: Colored Pens Edition

The hardest challenge about being a Division III student-athlete is: not going pro  :( sad!

Worst grade in a class you ever got – what and when? B in Physics.. rough one

I’m deathly afraid of ... : Storms and Dani Engelbreit when she hides and scares me

Worst habit: Cracking my knuckles

Most expensive traffic ticket: None, I’m always at 10 and 2 :)

Language I’d like to learn: Japanese so I can talk with Sara Dust

The longest I could survive without my cell phone: Probably like four days

One word your mother or father would use to describe you: After a good five minutes of explaining this question to them, we’ve got “brilliant” and “class”. Can you tell they’re foreign?

Favorite sports figure: John G. Kelly - Up Galway!

My greatest moment in sports was: Winning the CCIW with my team & advancing to the Sweet 16!

The best player I ever faced was: Coach Kellar #whyd3 #d1mom

Worst dresser on my team: Riley Rooney- only because of her gas station moose jacket

Thing that’s been in my fridge the longest: Pesto

Person I’m dying to have dinner with:  ur mom

Favorite food: Chocolate

Vegetable I won’t eat:  Every one of ‘em… except corn & bell peppers

Pepsi or Coke? Cherry Coke

Favorite TV show: "The Office"

Favorite musical group: Vance Joy (not a group, I know) or The Lumineers

Favorite movie: "50 First Dates"

If a movie were made of my life, I would like the following person to play me: Sandra Bullock

If my life were on TV as a reality show, I’d call it: “A Series of Mispronunciations: The Life of Grainne”

The person in history I would most like to meet is: Claire Quist as a high schooler, not to meet, just to observe

My dream job would be: A professional baker

Place I’d most like to live: Ireland

If you come back in another life, what would you like to return as: An otter

Two things that are tops on my “bucket list”: 1) Go to Alaska and see the Northern Lights; 2) Backpack through Southeast Asia with my siblings

My possession that would fetch the most on eBay: My laptop

Who is the luckiest person in the world? Anyone who gets to travel the world

What I miss most about being in the third grade: Snack time and recess
