Women’s Volleyball Jumps to No. 3 in AVCA Week One Poll

Titans ascend five slots after opening week

LEXINGTON, Ky. - After a 5-0 start to the season, the Illinois Wesleyan University women's volleyball team moved up five spots to No. 3 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III Poll Tuesday, Sept. 8.

The Titans completed an unbeaten week as the eighth-ranked team in the country with top-25 wins over No. 17 Hope College and No. 24 Dubuque University. The Green and White swept Wartburg College and Hendrix College while handling Aurora University in five sets.

Taking advantage of losses, IWU hurdled La Verne, East Texas Baptist, Berry, UW-Eau Claire, and Colby to make its way into the top-three. UW-Oshkosh stayed in the top spot with 71 first-place votes. Trinity (Texas) collected its first five first-place votes of the season to sit in second, as ETBU and Berry round out the top-five.

IWU travels east into Indiana for the weekend, with its first match against DePauw University Friday, Sept 11. Staying in the Hoosier State, the Green and White will face Austin College and Centre College Saturday, Sept. 12 in the Earlham Tournament. First serve against DU is schedule for 6 p.m. ET.
