Women’s Golf Readies for Whitewater Invite

Titans ranked No. 18 in WGCA Coaches Poll

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - After winning its home tournament, the eighteenth-ranked Illinois Wesleyan women's golf team makes the trip to Madison, Wis. for the UW-Whitewater Invite hosted at TCP Wisconsin. The 36-hole tournament will be held, Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 28-29, with tee times at 1 p.m.

In the season's first Women's Golf Coaches Association Coaches Poll, the Green and White opened in the top-20 at No. 18 with 140 points. The reigning Division III women's golf champion, Emory, is at the top of the list with 494 points and 16 first-place votes. Carnegie Mellon recorded three first-place gets and 478 for second while New York University collected 448 points to round out the top three.

The Green and White will compete in a field of 15 other teams including North Central, UW-Eau Claire, Dubuque, UW-La Crosse, Centre, UW-River Falls, Pomona-Pitzer, UW-Stevens Point, Wittenberg, Carthage, Rose-Hulman, Wartburg, Adrian, UW-Whitewater, and UW-Stout.

The Titan lineup includes reigning College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Golfer of the Week, freshman Natalie Ocheltree (Normal, Ill.-University), classmate Merritt Bell (Palatine, Ill.-Fremd) followed by juniors Grace Fagan (Kirkwood, Mo.-Visitation Academy), Gigi Zera (Glenview, Ill.-Loyola Academy), along with senior Emily Gastrau (Wauwatosa, Wis.-Wauwatosa). The Green and White will take two Titans to compete as individuals in senior Nora Cerroni (Waukesha, Wis-Waukesha North) and sophomore Julia Henry (Homewood, Ill.-Homewood-Flossmoor).

In UWW's fall tournament at TPC Wisconsin last season, IWU took third place as a team and saw four top-30 finishes, including Zera, who tied for fourth. Cerroni and Henry had successful rounds with t14 and t27 finishes, respectively.
