NORMAL, Ill. - The roster depth of the Illinois Wesleyan University women's golf program was on full display Saturday, Sept. 19, as the Titans began play as host of the IWU Fall Classic at the 5823-yard Ironwood Golf Course. Illinois Wesleyan leads the 20-team tournament at 294, while the Titan 'B' team is in third with a 306.

Overall, the Green and White are represented by six inside the top-25 of the 131-player field. Junior Gigi Zera (Glenview, Ill.-Loyola Academy) sits five strokes out of the lead in third-place, following her opening-round 71. The Glenview, Ill. native went two-under on the front with three birdies to stay in contention for medalist honors as one of four players in the field to shoot below par. Senior Emily Gastrau (Wauwatosa, Wis.-Wauwatosa East) posted an even-par, aided by four birdies. She is tied for fifth alongside freshman Natalie Ocheltree (Normal, Ill.-University High).

Freshman Merritt Bell (Palatine, Ill.-Fremd) and juniors Breanna Brown (South Barrington, Ill.-Barrington) and Caroline Carr (Frankfort, Ill.-Lincoln-Way East) paced the Titan 'B' team. Bell shot a three-over 75 and sits tied for 15th, while Brown and Carr turned in 76s. 

Rose-Hulman's Lauren Slatton holds the individual lead after an impressive seven-under, 65. DePauw's Daisy Williams is in second at three-under, with IWU's Zera one-of-two players tied for third. 

Final round action is scheduled for a 9 a.m. shotgun start tomorrow, Sept. 20. Live results will be available via Clippd, with everything posted on iwusports.com following the conclusion of the event.
