Women’s Golf Claims Fourth at Golfweek October Classic

Ocheltree ties for 10th

SANDESTIN, Fla. - Closing its fall season with its best round of the tournament, the 18th-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University women's golf climbed into fourth-place at the Golfweek October Classic Tuesday, Oct. 20. The Titans closed the high-quality tournament with a 305 on the par-72, 5601-yard Links Golf Club at Sandestin to finish the event with a 54-hole total of 533.

Illinois Wesleyan used a balanced all-around effort to jump three spots on the leaderboard and snag a top-five finish. The Green and White were one of two schools to see its entire lineup finish inside the top-50, joining tournament champion No. 15 Mary-Hardin Baylor. UMHB grabbed the win with a three-day score of 889. Macalester placed runner up at 919, while No. 19 UC Santa Cruz finished just ahead of IWU in third (921). Sewanee rounded out the top-five (934). The Titans led the field in par three scoring average at 3.18 and were third in par five scoring average with 5.25.

Leading the charge for the Titans, freshman Natalie Ocheltree (Normal, Ill.-University High) secured her fourth top-10 finish of the season. Ocheltree fired IWU's best round of the day and tied for IWU's best of the tournament with her second straight three-over 75. The rookie, who posted two birdies on the day, tied for 10th with a 54-hole total of 228.

Seniors Emily Gastrau (Wauwatosa, Wis.-Wauwatosa East) and Nora Cerroni (Waukesha, Wis.-Waukesha North) tied for 34th-place at 237. Cerroni and sophomore Julia Henry (Homewood, Ill.-Homewood-Flossmoor) each turned in four-over 76s. Henry and junior Grace Fagan (Kirkwood, Mo.-Visitation Academy) each earned a share of 48th with a tournament score of 241.

Huntingdon's Yvette Gorden took home medalist honors with a score of 216. She registered the one of two below-par rounds of the day, shooting a two-under 70, to grab the win by a five-stroke margin.

The tournament marked the end of a strong fall season for Illinois Wesleyan that saw the Titans claim the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Championship, defeat two NCAA Division I teams at the Redbird Classic hosted by Illinois State University, and win the IWU Fall Classic. IWU will take a few months off before returning to action for Spring Break in March. A full spring schedule will be posted to iwusports.com in the coming weeks.
