Women’s Golf Completes First Two Rounds of Redbird Invitational

Final 18 takes place tomorrow, Sept. 14

NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's golf team completed 36 holes at the Redbird Invitational held at the par-72, 6177-yard Weibring Golf Course Sunday, Sept.13. The Titans sit in 11th place after a 311 first round and a 314 second at the event hosted by Illinois State University.

The predominantly Division I tournament saw St. Thomas grab an early lead in the opening round for the only under-par round (283) of the day. St. Thomas finished the day at four-over (580). Augusta sits in second at 13-over (589) and Illinois State rounds out the top-three with a two-round total of 594. IWU leads Division I Northern Iowa and Evansville with 18 holes to go.

On a windy day at Weibring Golf Course, freshman Natalie Ocheltree (Normal, Ill.-University) led the way for IWU in her first collegiate tournament. The freshman, sitting in a tie for 14th, fired a team-best one-over, 73, in round one and posted a three-over 75 in the second 18 of the day. Junior Grace Fagan (Kirkwood, Mo.-Visitation Academy) shot a second round 77 after a 78 in round one to hold a spot inside the top-50.

The final round of the Redbird Invitational will get underway tomorrow, Sept. 14, with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
