CSC Release

LAS VEGAS - The Illinois Wesleyan university athletic communications office was recognized for its work throughout the 2025-26 academic year as part of the College Sport Communicators Creative Digital & Design contest at the organization's annual convention, June 10. The Titans garnered honors in three different categories.

Rising junior student photographer Audrey Peterson (Robbinsdale, Minn.-Robbinsdale Armstrong) grabbed a top-five ranking among Division III photos. Katie Gonzales, Associate AD for Communications and Marketing, was included in the graphic design rankings, while assistant director Meredith Mahoney pulled in honors in the video category.

Peterson, a second-year student worker in the athletic communications department, played a key role in covering Titan athletics throughout the season. One of several IWU student photographers, Peterson helped with coverage for the NCAA Division III women's volleyball national championship, IWU men's basketball's run to the Elite Eight, and countless College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin tournaments and championships. The sophomore pulled in national recognition for her photo from a foggy women's lacrosse game at Tucci Stadium. Peterson's photo was slotted sixth-best across the college division and ranked fifth among Division III. Her photo checked in at fourth-best among student workers nationally.

In the long form video recap portion of the contest, Mahoney snagged recognition for her Taylor French Kills Record feature. Her work tied for 15th in the college division and was lauded with a No. 4 ranking in Division III submissions.
Gonzales reeled in two national rankings for her graphic design work, sitting among the top in NCAA Division III's individual awards, milestones, and record graphics. Her graphic highlighting Gianna Certa's no-hitter in late April checked in at No. 11, while her content publicizing Taylor French's record-breaking efforts was slotted 12th-best across the division.

For the third consecutive year, the contest set a record for participation with an 18.7 percent increase from the previous year with a total of 2,565 entries. Nine-hundred eighty entries came from the University Division while 1,585 entries came from College Division institutions. Fourteen of the 17 contest categories saw an increase in participation year over year, while the Portfolio Contests combined for 173 entries. Over the last three years, the contest has experienced an overall increase of nearly 170 percent from 957 entries in 2023-24.

Nearly 270 institutions and conference offices were among the participants this year, with more than 650 total individuals having been named on an entry. A total of 456 places were recognized in the overall contest results while 490 entries garnered "Best Of" honors for each level in the College Division as well as for Graduate Assistants, Interns and Student Workers. 980 entries made up the 17 contests in the University Division composed exclusively of Division I institutions. The College Division was headlined by Division II with 711 total entries followed by Division III with 541, the NAIA with 246, Canadian Institutions with 27 and two-year colleges with 22.

Illinois Wesleyan's athletic communications office, named after longtime Sports Information Director Edgar Alsene,  oversees the marketing and publicity efforts for all 30 Titan athletic programs. The staff is charged with live streaming home events, maintaining iwusports.com, providing photography, videography, and social media coverage of IWU athletics, and much more.
