Men’s Golf Holds Steady in Final Regular Season Poll

Titans stay ranked at No. 9

NORMAN, Okla. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's golf team continued at No. 9 in the latest Bushnell/Golfweek DIII Coaches Poll with 325 points, released by the organization Friday, May 8. The Titans head to the NCAA Division III Championship next week, Tuesday-Friday, May 12-15.

Sophomore Pablo Castro (Palatine, Ill.-Palatine) is the highest-ranked Titan according to the latest Clippd Division III player rankings. The sophomore ranks 10th having most recently won the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin individual title last week, April 29-May 1, and earning CCIW Golfer of the Year accolades.

Castro holds the best scoring average by a Titan this season, boasting a 71.8 stroke average, which is currently the second-best single season average in program history. 

Freshman Ryan Andrews (Libertyville, Ill.-Libertyville) and senior Michael Spitzer (Hinsdale, Ill.-Hinsdale Central) claimed second and third, respectively, at the CCIW Championships. Andrews garnered Newcomer of the Year honors, while Spitzer earned First Team All-CCIW accolades for the third time in his career. 

Huntington stayed in the top spot for the fifth consecutive week with 17 first-place votes and 449 points. Carnegie Mellon remained in second with 400 points, while Sewanee rocketed into the third position from sixth with 399 points and a first-place nod. Methodist and Emory rounded out the top-five with 396 and 365 points, respectively. 

IWU is headed to the national championship in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. at Mission Inn Resort + Club Tuesday-Friday, May 12-15. Links to live results can be found on the men's golf schedule page of iwusports.com.
