Men’s Golf Poised for National Championship Run

5/11/2026 1:00:00 PM

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's golf team jets to Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. for the NCAA Division III Championship Tuesday-Friday, May 12-15. The 72-hole tournament is set to kick off with the first 18 being played at the 7230-yard, par-72 Las Colinas Golf Course and round two at the 7015-yard, par-72 El Campeon Golf Course at Mission Inn Resort + Club.

The field will be cut to the top-18 teams and six individuals on non-advancing teams after the second round of the tournament, as the final 36-holes are set to be played on the El Campeon Golf Course. The Titans earned the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin's automatic bid into the 43 team national championship field by way of a 42-stroke victory at the CCIW Championship April 29-May 1.

Senior trio Juney Bai (Mokena, Ill.-Lincoln-Way Central), Michael Spitzer (Hinsdale, Ill.-Hinsdale Central), and Aidan Healy (New Lenox, Ill.-Lincoln-Way East), along with sophomore Pablo Castro (Palatine, Ill.-Palatine) and freshman Ryan Andrews (Libertyville, Ill.-Libertyville) will make up the Titan's championship squad.

Castro captured the individual title at the conference tournament with a 54-hole total of 211. The sophomore leads IWU with a 71.8 stroke average this season. With two wins and five top-five finishes this season, Castro is currently ranked No. 10 in Division III. He has been on a tear throughout the spring, finishing in the top-three in each of the past six tournaments. Castro looks to make some noise in his national championship debut.

Also set to make his championship debut, CCIW Newcomer of the Year Andrews has played in seven tournaments for Illinois Wesleyan this season. Andrews has been consistent throughout his freshman campaign, recording just four rounds greater than 75 through 18 tournament rounds. In his past three tournaments of the season, Andrews finished in the top-five in each.

Bai is set to make his fourth national championship appearance. The Mokena, Ill. native had the best finish of his career at the national championship last season, finishing tied for 29th, aiding the Green and White to a runner-up finish. Bai holds the program record for most career rounds played as Titan with 110, including 39 rounds of par or better.

Spitzer is also experienced in national tournaments, as he will make his third career appearance this week. Spitzer has played some of the best golf of his career on the national stage, finishing in the top-15 in the past two national championships. The senior finished eighth individually in Las Vegas, Nev. in 2023 before his 14th-place finish last season. Spitzer has the second-lowest average on the team this season at 72.8.

Rounding out the senior trio, Healy will arrive at this year's national championship with one year of experience under his belt. Healy was a crucial piece of the 2025 national runner-up team and boasts a 73.8 scoring average in 25 rounds this season.

The first Titan on the tee Tuesday will be at 8:20 a.m. ET on Las Colinas Golf Course. Illinois Wesleyan will be paired with Trinity (Texas) and Transylvania in round one.
