BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University flag football team plays its final pair of road games Saturday, April 11, against Rockford University and the College of Dupage. All games will be hosted by Benedictine University in Lisle, Ill. The Titans (7-3) and Regents take the field at 12:30. IWU concludes its day against the College of Dupage at 2 p.m.
Illinois Wesleyan is fresh off of a 21-7 win at Illinois College Saturday, April 4. Freshman
Maylin Nunez (Chicago, Ill.-Taft) was the mastermind behind the Titan offense, as she completed 30-of-42 pass attempts for a total of 263 yards and three touchdowns. The Chicago native also led IWU in rushing yards, as she churned out 60 yards on 12 attempts.
Freshman Deanna Cirebea (Bartlett, Ill.-Bartlett) led a strong receiving group, catching eight passes for a total of 106 yards and one touchdown. The trio of freshmen Lily Greenfield (Lindenhurst, Ill.-Lakes Community), Natalyia Stallings (Rockford, Ill.-Guilford), and Layah Glover (Gurnee, Ill.-Round Lake) each caught five passes. Greenfield led the group with 51 yards and a score, followed by Stallings and Glover with 41 and 40 receiving yards, respectively.
Glover and freshmen Nakilah Mason (Chicago, Ill.-Chicago Military Academy) and Simone Dyer (Chicago, Ill.-Whitney M. Young) led the defense with six flag pulls apiece. Glover stuffed her stat line full with an interception and a pass break-up. Stalling snagged the other interception for the Green and White, while Mason was behind all three sacks.
Rockford sits at 3-2, most recently falling to Bryant & Stratton College, 42-12, Monday, April 6. The Regents will play Marian University and the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, Thursday, April 9 before they head to Lisle. This will be the first of two meetings between the RU and IWU. Rockford makes the trip to Bloomington, Sunday, April 19.
The College of Dupage (2-6) fell 22-6 to Pratt Community College, Saturday, April 4. The Titans took down COD, 22-6, at Halas Hall, Sunday, March 8. In that game, freshman Emma Caniglia (Addison, Ill.-Addison) led IWU in passing, completing 21-of-38 attempts for 202 yards with three touchdowns.
