BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The 15th annual Illinois Wesleyan University "Tommy Awards" sponsored by the IWU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and State Farm Insurance, presented awards to Illinois Wesleyan athletes in an array of categories inside the Shirk Center Monday night, April 14. The winners of the top female and male "Athlete of the Year" awards went to Adriana Crabtree of the women's cross country and team and field teams and Noah Cleveland of the men's basketball team.
The men's basketball team won the "Academic Team of the Year" honor for top overall grade-point average.
Sam Kedzior of the men's soccer team took home Best Championship Performance on the men's side, while triple jumper
Imani Ogunribido (women's track and field) took home the honor on the women's side.
Following a season that saw her break program records in the 3000m steeplechase, indoor mile and 3000m, and break a school and conference championship record in cross country, Adriana Crabtree was recognized as the recipient of the Best Record-Breaking Performance.
Will Nazha, wide receiver on the football team, was named the Breakthrough Athlete of the Year.
Noah Cleveland and
Caitlin Leyden of the men's and women's basketball teams received Rookie of the Year honors.
The award for Best Clutch Performance on the men's side went to men's basketball's Mason Funk while women's Best Clutch Performance went to Ava Bardic (women's basketball).
The women's volleyball team earned Female Best Game honors for its win over eventual national champion UW-Oshkosh during the regular season, while men's basketball collected the award for erasing a 19-point halftime deficit to defeat Elmhurst in overtime in the CCIW Tournament Championship game.
Longtime equipment manager Tony Robbins was honored with the coach recognition award, while women's volleyball was voted the Do Good Now Award winner for their 489 hours of community service throughout the year.
Awards were also presented to the student-athletes who had the highest grade-point average for their respective sports. Those winners were:
