Women’s Lacrosse Heads to Carroll for CCIW Contest

Titans take on Pios at 12 p.m.

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team will make the trip to Carroll University for a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin contest Saturday, April 11. The Titans (5-7, 1-0 CCIW) will take on the reigning CCIW regular season and tournament champion Pioneers (10-2, 1-0 CCIW) at 12 p.m. as part of a doubleheader with the men's lacrosse team, which is set to follow with a 4 p.m. bout. 

Illinois Wesleyan enters the weekend off a 16-12 win over North Central College to kick off CCIW play, April 4. Senior Anelise DiGiovanni (Lockport, Ill.-Lockport) led the team with five points and eight draw controls, while tying for the team-high in goals alongside senior Sadie Newton (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community), as each net four. Sophomore Lillie Keeton (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington) posted a team-best two assists. Keeton and senior Sarah Riepe (Aurora, Ill.-St. Francis) totaled a team-high three caused turnovers apiece, while sophomore Marli Brown (Kansas City, Mo.-Notre Dame de Sion) notched team-leading totals of seven ground balls and 11 saves. 

On the year, DiGiovanni leads IWU with 44 points, composed of a team-best 23 assists, and 21 goals, the second-most on the squad. Sophomore Sophie Shore (St. Peters, Mo.-Francis Howell Central) follows with 32 points, as her 20 goals and 12 assists both rank third on the team. Newton is third with 28 points, aided by a team-high 25 goals. Sophomore Maddie Gibson's (Fenton, Mo.-Rockwood Summit) 13 assists land her second in helpers behind DiGiovanni. 

Shore holds the team-high in caused turnovers with 28, closely followed by Newton with 27. Riepe rounds out the top-three with 20, while the same trio also pace the Titans in draw controls. Newton tops the team with 59, followed by Riepe and Shore with 32 and 30, respectively. Newton also leads the team in ground balls with 40. Shore and Brown are deadlocked for second on the team, as each sophomore has scooped up 33 ground balls. 

In goal for the Green and White, Brown leads the team with 93 saves over 517:45 minutes between the pipes. The sophomore brings in a record of 4-6 and a .375 save percentage into Saturday's showdown. Freshman Allison Vervynck (Overland Park, Kan.-Saint Thomas Aquinas) holds a .425 save percentage and a 1-1 mark after recording 37 saves over 202:15 minutes in goal. 

IWU and CU will meet for the 14th time, with the Titans holding an 8-5 edge in the series. Carroll came away victorious in the last meeting, defeating Illinois Wesleyan 17-6, April 12, 2025. Mia Fiandaca led the team with three goals, four ground balls, six caused turnovers, and tied for the team-high with a pair of draw controls. Lizzie Rymarcsuk spent all 60 minutes in goal, making 16 saves. The Pioneers enter the game off a 16-2 victory over Elmhurst University Saturday, April 4.
