Women’s Lacrosse Drops Matchup with Meredith

Titans conclude spring break trip

RALEIGH, N.C. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team dropped its matchup with Meredith College Friday afternoon, March 20, falling 24-1. The loss drops the Titans to 3-6 on the year, while the Avenging Angels improve to 6-2. 

IWU's lone goal of the game came from sophomore Maddie Gibson (Fenton, Mo.-Rockwood Summit), as she got the Titans on the scoreboard with 4:17 remaining in the second period.

Senior Sarah Riepe (Aurora, Ill.-St. Francis) and sophomore Sophie Shore (St. Peters, Mo.-Francis Howell Central) tallied a team-best two ground balls each, while four Titans scooped up one. 

Shore also led the Green and White in caused turnovers, as she finished with three. IWU finished with nine draw controls, five of which were awarded to the team. 

Sophomore Marli Brown (Kansas City, Mo.-Notre Dame de Sion) logged the first 30 minutes in goal, making eight saves. Freshman Allison Vervynck (Overland Park, Kan.-Saint Thomas Aquinas) finished the game in between the pipes, finishing with six saves. 

Illinois Wesleyan concludes its spring break trip, but will remain on the road. The Titans will travel to No. 18 University of Chicago Wednesday, March 25, to take on the Maroons at 6 p.m.
