Women’s Lacrosse Finishes Spring Break Trip at Meredith

Titans take on Avenging Angels at 1 p.m. ET

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team will conclude its spring break trip at Meredith College Friday, March 20. Action against the Avenging Angels is slated to begin at 1 p.m. ET at the Meredith Athletic Field and Track Complex.

The Green and White (3-5) enters off a 20-0 loss to Methodist University Wednesday night, March 18. Senior Sadie Newton (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) led the team with eight draw controls, and tied for the team-lead alongside Allison Vervynck (Overland Park, Kan.-Saint Thomas Aquinas) in ground balls, each having scooped up three. Newton and fifth year Bri Kiser (Crown Point, Ind.-Crown Point) each caused one turnover.

Leading the offense is senior Anelise DiGiovanni (Lockport, Ill.-Lockport Township) with 29 points. Her 16 assists sit atop the team, while her 13 goals are tied for third alongside sophomore Sophie Shore (St. Peters, Mo.-Francis Howell Central). Shore is second on the squad with 22 points, followed by 18 from Newton and sophomore Maddie Gibson (Fenton, Mo.-Rockwood Summit). Newton's 16 goals are a team-high, while sophomore Lillie Keeton (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington) ranks second with 14. Gibson follows DiGiovanni in the assists column with 10 helpers on the season, while Shore closely trails with nine.

Newton leads the team with 29 ground balls, followed by 20 from fellow senior Sarah Riepe (Aurora, Ill.-St. Francis). Sophomore Marli Brown (Kansas City, Mo.-Notre Dame de Sion) has scooped up 18, good for third on the team. Newton and Riepe also rank top two on the Titans in draw controls, with 51 and 24, respectively. Having notched 21 draws, Shore rounds out the top three. The same trio also leads the team in caused turnovers, with Newton's 22 good for the team-lead. Shore is second with 18, followed by 12 from Riepe. 

In goal for the Green and White, Brown leads the team with 307:45 minutes logged in between the pipes. She enters the contest with 60 saves on a .397 save percentage and a 2-4 record. Vervynck brings in 30 saves on a .411 clip with a 1-1 mark, having spent 172:15 in goal. 

The Titans will face Meredith (5-2) for the first time in program history. The Avenging Angels look to build off a 20-8 win at Marymount University Wednesday, March 18.
