Women’s Lacrosse Shutout at Methodist

Titans drop to 3-5

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team fell at Methodist University, 20-0, Wednesday night, March 18. The Titans stumble to 3-5 on the season, while Methodist moves to 6-3.

Senior Sadie Newton (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) led the team with eight draw controls. Senior Anelise DiGiovanni (Lockport, Ill.-Lockport Township) added four draw controls.

Newton tied for the team-lead in ground balls alongside freshman Allison Vervynck (Overland Park, Kan.-Saint Thomas Aquinas). The duo each scooped up three ground balls. Sophomore Cassie Fischmann (Normal, Ill.-Normal Community) and fifth-year Bri Kiser (Crown Point, Ind.-Crown Point) followed with two ground balls apiece.

Vervynck spent the first 22:15 minutes in goal, making six saves, getting tagged with the loss. Sophomore Marli Brown (Kansas City, Mo.-Notre Dame de Sion) logged the last 37:45 in goal, making five stops.

As a team, the Titans notched the lead in saves (11-6), draw controls (13-9), and went 8-of-17 on clear attempts. MU held the upper hand in shots (38-9), shots on goal (28-6), ground balls (31-14), and went 19-of-21 on clears.

Illinois Wesleyan will close out its spring break trip at Meredith College Friday, March 20. Action from the Meredith Athletic Field and Track Complex is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET.
