BLOOMINGTON, Ill.- The Illinois Wesleyan University men's tennis team heads to Orlando, Fla. for its spring break trip. The Titans will play four matches beginning with Coe College, Sunday, March 15 and wrapping up with Crown College, Wednesday, March 18.
IWU is coming off a two-win weekend, taking down Ripon College, 7-0, Saturday, March 7 and Lawrence University, 5-2, Sunday, March 8. The weekend success led to senior Ben Vigneri (Casper, Wyo.-Phillips Exeter) being named the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin player of the week. Ian Turnbull (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington). He also went 2-0 at No. 1 singles. He becomes the second Titan to win the CCIW weekly honor, joining Turnbull, who took home the award Feb. 23. Junior
Thad Dillow (Effingham, Ill.-Effingham) also went 4-0 on the weekend.
Coe and IWU meet for the first time since 2023, with the Kohawks (8-2) claiming the last nine dual matches. The 2023 meeting was the first since 2005 and went 9-0 in favor of Coe. CC most recently defeated Augustana College, 6-1, March 7. Sunday's meeting will be played at the USTA National Campus with first serve scheduled for 9 a.m. ET.
On Monday, Illinois Wesleyan takes on Edgewood College (5-7) in its first matchup since 2011. Fifteen years ago, in Hilton Head, S.C., IWU won 9-0, only conceding four games in singles play. The Eagles most recently defeated Lawrence University, 6-1, March 1. They have three common opponents with IWU as both squads defeated Lawrence, Monmouth, and Ripon earlier this season. First serve is slated for 8 a.m. ET.
The penultimate match of the week pits IWU against Bethel University. The Royals (7-1) swept UW-Stevens Point, 7-0, March 6. This will be the third all-time meeting between IWU and BU with the Royals claiming the first two, most recently coming back in 2016. The Titans and the Royals take the court, Wednesday, March 17 at 12:30 p.m. ET.
IWU wraps up its stay in the Sunshine State with a date against Crown College in the first ever meeting between the two programs. The Polars are 2-3, and are coming off a 5-2 loss against St. Mary's University, Feb. 20. Wednesday's competition begins at 7:30 a.m. ET at the USTA National Campus.
