BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's basketball team remained steady at No. 16 in the most recent D3hoops.com top-25 poll released by the organization Monday, Feb. 9.
IWU is the only College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin men's hoops squad in the rankings, while Carthage is in the receiving votes category. The Titans garnered 296 points, while the Firebirds tallied 33.
The latest poll reflected an exciting week across Division III men's basketball, as the previous top two teams fell out of the top-five. Montclair State climbed to the top spot for the first time this season, grabbing 11 first-place nods and 584 points, as five teams garnered at least one first-place vote. Randolph-Macon rose to the second spot with 574 points, and St. Thomas (Texas) reached the third spot with 550. Trinity (Conn.) sits in the fourth position (549) and Emory is fifth (526).
Illinois Wesleyan defeated CCIW opponents Wheaton and Elmhurst for a 2-0 week. In the midweek win over Wheaton Wednesday, Feb. 4, sophomore Noah Cleveland (Normal, Ill.-Normal Community) recorded a near-triple double to defeat the Thunder, 82-71. Three Titans scored 20+ points on Saturday, Feb. 7 in a commanding 91-69 win over the Bluejays to avenge their loss to EU earlier in the season.
The Titans hit the road for a three-game trip to end the regular season with their first stop at Millikin Wednesday, Feb. 11. Tipoff inside the Griswold Center is set for 7 p.m.
