CCIW Chooses Funk for Final Weekly Accolade

Second weekly league award of his career

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - An explosive final week of the regular season saw Illinois Wesleyan University men's basketball junior Mason Funk (Normal, Ill.-University High) reel in weekly recognition from the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Tuesday, Feb. 24. Funk earned the second conference weekly award of his career.

Funk powered Illinois Wesleyan to two road wins, Feb. 18-21, as the Titans secured the program's 34th CCIW Regular Season Title. With IWU playing without Noah Cleveland, Funk stepped up to average 31.0 points per game over two games while shooting 60.0 percent from the field (24-of-40). He tossed in 8.0 rebounds, 5.0 blocks, 2.0 assists, and 2.0 steals per contest as the Titans topped North Park, 76-71, and Augustana, 75-56, to claim the conference championship outright.

Funk began the week with 33 points on 14-of-22 shooting at North Park, Feb. 18. He nearly posted a double-double with eight rebounds, a team-high, five blocks, two assists, and two steals. The junior followed that with a 29-point outing at Augustana, Feb. 21, to clinch the league title outright. He made 10-of-18 shot attempts while posting an identical stat line in rebounds, assists, blocks, and steals.

With the regular season in the rearview mirror, Funk and the Titans lock in on the CCIW Tournament. Quarterfinal games are scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, while IWU will host the semifinal and championship games inside the Shirk Center Friday-Saturday, Feb. 27-28. Illinois Wesleyan will play in the 7:30 p.m. semifinal Friday, Feb. 27, while No. 2 Carthage battles in the 5 p.m. bout.
