NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Sophomore AJ Weller (Geneseo, Ill.-Geneseo) of the Illinois Wesleyan University baseball team was the recipient of the first College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Hitter of the Week honor of the year, announced by the league office Tuesday, Feb. 24.

Weller impressed in his Titan debut going 9-for-13 in the team's three-game series against Greenville University, Wednesday-Thursday, Feb. 18-19. The Illinois State University transfer erupted for a monster week leading the team in hitting with a .692 batting average, second-best in the CCIW among student-athletes with the necessary at-bats. The shortstop piled up an OPS just south of two at 1.996 with five extra base hits.

Weller began his season with seven straight hits including his first career home run. He added two doubles and a triple in the doubleheader for a 1.308 slugging percentage. IWU was led by his nine hits, as he was put away just four times. Weller was an RBI machine driving in five runs over the two days.

He is the first Titan to take home the award since his teammate John Phillip Ferraro did so April 7, 2025 following a nine-hit, three-homer week.

Weller and the rest of the Illinois Wesleyan baseball team head south to the Home of the Blues to square off against DePauw University and Rhodes College in Memphis, Tenn. First pitch with DePauw is scheduled for 10:30 a.m.
